About this course

This course is designed to provide learners with an introductory understanding of the process of task and resource analysis (TRA) for aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) services. The course is mapped to and aligns with the following international standards:

  • ICAO Airport Services Manual (Doc 9137) Part 1 Rescue and Fire Fighting Chapter 10.5 task and resource analysis.
  • CAP 1150: Guidance on delivering an effective Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (RFFS).
  • EASA / EU Regulation No. 139.

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of relevant regulatory requirements for ARFF services.
  • Explain the purpose and objectives of conducting a TRA for ARFF services.
  • Identify the key components that should be included in a comprehensive TRA.
  • Describe the phases of the TRA process as outlined by industry standards.
  • Explain the data that is required to be included in a TRA.
  • Explain how TRA results can inform human resourcing and/or equipment procurement decisions.

  • Definition and the importance of a task and resource analysis (TRA).
  • What is meant by “worst case plausible scenario” and factors to consider when developing a worst case plausible incident scenario.
  • Documents which provide guidance and outline a recommended TRA process.
  • The importance of adherence to regulations and standards to optimize ARFF capabilities.
  • Key points regarding the frequency of TRA reviews and updates.
  • The key purpose and objectives of a TRA.
  • Phase 1: Aims and objectives.
  • Phase 2: Scenario development.
  • Phase 3: Task and resource analysis.
  • Factors that assist in determining the broad components of a TRA.
  • Specific tasks and resources to be included in a TRA.
  • The critical role the TRA plays in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of ARFF operations at airports worldwide.
