Improve Your Knowledge of Human Factors

Improve Your Knowledge of Human Factors

Research estimates that 85% of aviation accidents are associated with human factors. That figure alone explains why understanding how people think, react, and make decisions under pressure is one of the most important areas of safety training in the airport industry. No system, technology, or procedure fully compensates for a workforce that does not understand the human contribution to risk.

The Human Factors Safety Training course, completed by thousands of airport professionals worldwide, gives participants the knowledge to recognize how individual performance is affected by the environment, workload, fatigue, communication, and other factors, and how those insights can be applied to reduce errors before they become incidents.

What You Will Learn

The Human Factors Safety Training course covers the essential principles of human factors and their direct relevance to airport operations and safety. Participants will develop an understanding of:

  • The basic components of human factors and their relationship to safety outcomes in the aviation environment
  • How human factors influence airport operations and safety, and where the greatest risks tend to emerge
  • How to improve safety by applying practical human factors strategies to everyday tasks and decisions

Previous participants describe the course as delivering a clear understanding of how people and their interactions with their environment and technology affect organizational safety and effectiveness. That kind of insight is directly applicable for anyone working in an environment where decisions, distractions, and fatigue are daily realities.

The course is available in English, French, and Spanish, making it accessible to airport workforces across multiple regions.

Study Path to Certificate I in Airside Safety

The Human Factors Safety Training course is one of five safety courses that together make up the Certificate I in Airside Safety, which provides a deep and structured understanding of the critical elements of airside safety. The full certificate program includes:

  • Airside Safety Training The foundational course covering the key principles and responsibilities of airside safety.
  • Apron Safety Management Focused on the specific hazards and safety management practices in apron operations.
  • Human Factors Safety Training Understanding how individual and team behavior influences safety outcomes.
  • Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Prevention The risks posed by FOD and how to manage a proactive prevention program.
  • Safety Management Systems Training Applying Safety Management System principles to strengthen airport-wide safety culture.

Completing the full certificate gives participants a comprehensive grounding in airside safety that goes well beyond any single course. For those who want to go further, the Certificate II in Airside Safety builds on this foundation with more specialized content in emergency planning, accident investigation, construction safety, runway safety, and wildlife hazard management.
