Safety and security are top priorities for our industry. Sadly, recent events show us that terrorists continue to try to exploit aviation to do harm, not only from outside the system but also from within.

The people who facilitate these attacks are known as insider threats, and their position of trust allows them to understand the system and exploit any vulnerabilities, knowingly or otherwise.

The Addressing Insider Threat course provides airport management teams with a basic understanding of the issues and challenges facing airports when staff members cause harm to the organization and others and offers best practices and examples drawn from around the world.

Most airport staff members conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner. This course looks at the rare occasions when staff members exploit their positions of trust to harm the organization and others. We also consider when well-intentioned and unwitting employees are exploited by others to cause harm.

Identify indicators of potential insider threat activity.
Describe notable insider threat incidents in the aviation sector.
Describe relevant ICAO requirements relating to security measures for persons other than passengers.
Outline organizational, personnel, and physical security measures designed to aid insider threat mitigation at airports.
Summarize practical steps airports can take to reduce insider risk to IT systems and cybersecurity environments.

Who should enrol?

All airport personnel with supervisory or management responsibilities including airside, terminal, and landside staff.
All supervisors and managers from airport stakeholders that provide services to airport customers including airlines, ground handlers and concessionaires.

Aviation Security Officer

Conducts passenger and baggage screening, monitors restricted areas, and maintains high security standards across the airport.
