Houston Airport System (HAS) is a key department within the City of Houston, managing three major airports: George Bush Intercontinental, one of the busiest airports in the U.S.; William P. Hobby, known for its convenient domestic travel options; and Ellington Airport, a critical hub for military, NASA, and general aviation. Serving millions of passengers annually, HAS plays a vital role in the region’s connectivity and economic development, ensuring the smooth operation and growth of these critical transportation hubs.
Committed to operational excellence, HAS places a strong emphasis on employee engagement, transparent communication, and career development. To enhance workforce management and boost employee satisfaction, HAS’s top management identified two key areas for improvement:
1) Training Management: Efficiently capturing, categorizing, and tracking employees’ training, competencies and skillsets to ensure they are fully qualified and compliant for their roles.
2) Employee satisfaction and engagement: Creating a transparent working environment and providing career growth opportunities.
1) Fragmented Training Management: Employee training was tracked across disconnected platforms, making it difficult for managers to monitor completion and compliance.
2) Lack of Job Role Clarity: Standard job classifications specified by the City of Houston didn’t accurately reflect the specific duties and qualifications required for airport operations.
3) Limited Visibility of Internal Talent: Managers do not have visibility of existing employee skills and qualifications across HAS.
To address these challenges and innovate their workforce management, HAS implemented Klayo, a leading cloud workforce management platform for airports. The solution has been rolled out to 1,354 employees, with over 60% already actively using the platform and on track to reach 100% by the end of 2024.
Klayo provides a comprehensive platform that centralizes training management, enhances data transparency, and supports career development initiatives.
1) Centralized Workforce Data: Klayo will offer a unified platform for tracking employee training and qualifications, leading to more efficient management.
2) Training Gap Analysis: The platform will enable HAS to identify and address training gaps, helping the organization stay compliant and meet job-specific requirements.
3) Career Path Clarity: Employees will gain insights into the skills, competencies, and qualifications needed for future promotions or role changes within the organization.
