About this course

TP312 Course 3 - Obstacle Management provides an overview of obstacle management at aerodromes. It explains how relevant surfaces and protected areas are used to identify, assess, and manage obstacles that may affect aircraft operations.

Prerequisite: TP312 Course 1 – Essential Information is mandatory for all participants and must be the first course taken in the TP312 5th Edition Training program whether taken alone or with one or more other courses.

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain the various Obstacle Limitation Surfaces.
  • Ensure your airport meets the minimum standard with respect to Obstacle
  • Limitation Surfaces.
  • Confirm no obstacles penetrate the Obstacle Limitation Surfaces at your airport.
  • Determine if and how a Precision Obstacle Free Zone is to be applied at your airport.
  • Explain the obstacle identification surfaces.
  • Explain clearway.
  • Ensure your airport meets the minimum standard with respect to obstacle identification surfaces and clearway.
  • Identify any obstacles which require assessing.
  • Determine the appropriate clearway length if your airport elects to provide one.

Course content

TP312 Course 3 – Obstacle Management consists of the following two online modules:

This module explores obstacle management and introduces obstacle limitation surfaces (OLS) and precision obstacle free zone (POFZ).

This module continues with obstacle management and introduces obstacle identification surfaces (OIS) and clearway.
