The Airport Security Measures and Technologies course describes the various security zones in place at an airport and the common access control and identification requirements to access these zones.

The course also explores the types of security measures and technologies used at airports around the world – including both the baseline measures airports implement to prevent acts of unlawful interference, as well as more advanced measures and emerging technologies and approaches.

This course can be taken as part of the Certificate in Airport Security for those wishing to deepen their understanding of the key concepts and best practices associated with airport security and gain the knowledge required to address modern airport security challenges.

  • The purpose and common types of airport identification (ID) cards.
  • Who needs an airport ID card.
  • Obligations and responsibilities of ID card holders.
  • Key security features found on ID cards.
  • Traditional screening equipment.
  • Newer equipment and technologies.
  • A selection of best practices and innovations in security screening, including: Centralized image processing, Seamless security controls, Risk-based passenger differentiation, and Increasing unpredictability.
  • Benefits and challenges associated with the use of biometrics in aviation security.
  • How biometrics are currently being used at airports.
  • The challenges and benefits of implementing new security technologies and processes.
  • Key considerations when looking to introduce new screening equipment.
