The Airport Pavement Construction course explores typical processes, key considerations, and best practices when it comes to airport pavement construction – both in relation to new construction and the rehabilitation of existing surfaces.

The course can be taken as part of the Certificate in Airport Pavement Fundamentals for those wishing to gain a more complete understanding of the key concepts and considerations across the pavement lifecycle.

At a minimum, it is recommended that you have previously completed the Introduction to Airport Pavements course, as it provides important foundational knowledge that is extended upon in this course.

Describe the key properties of, and construction requirements for, common subgrade materials.
Explain the general processes for, and key considerations when, using fine crushed rock, cement treated crushed rock, and foamed bitumen base in pavement construction.
Describe the typical construction processes for, and items to consider during the construction of, asphalt, concrete, and concrete block pavers.
Explain the rationale for, and key considerations when, conducting proof rolling as part of airport pavement construction.
Recognize the need for rapid, or expedient, construction materials and methods for pavement upgrades.
Explain the factors that should be considered when selecting expedient construction materials and methods.
